At MJI, we stress the importance of effectiveness through relevance. This is guided by the understanding that company funding and work time leave no excesses for irrelevant training that do not immediately address the organisation’s critical issues. To this end, we emphasise the following principles:

Customised training
Customisation is critical to training because it enables content developers to build in relevance as a key consideration. With the limits of human memory and time, concepts that stay well within the boundaries of participants’ work interests are more likely to be remembered and used in the workplace.

Application
Understanding conceptual ideas can only be as useful as when they are applied with ease. Our priority is to provide a hands-on approach to learning, such that the skills can be translated into practical real-world work situations.

Action Learning
There is no learning without action and no action without learning. We believe that each participant brings with them a fair share of knowledge and expertise that can benefit the group if we encourage a fluid flow of interaction and discussion.

Experiential learning
The learning process is expedited when reflective observation flows into conceptualization, experimentation and concrete experience. By encouraging participants to allow learning to materialize into their personal experiences, we can strengthen their own conviction about newly-acquired concepts and skills.

Commitment
Responsible training should not be limited to the few hours spent working on mastering the required skills. We regularly update past participants on new knowledge, check on their work progress, and evaluate their learning over time. At the same time, the lines of communication between trainer and participants remain open even after the training.
